‘Badhai ho, apka beta huya hey’ might seem to be a bit old fashioned, but this has not changed in many parts of modern India. On the streets of India where every other day there is a march for the rights of women or there is plea for justice against rape victims. Even in the 20th century, there are people who hesitate to own a girl child in remote Indian places. But even this must come to an end and this is the thought of the modern Indian youth.
While it is one side of the coin, the other half says that Indian women have an impact over 17-18% of the GDP of the country. Indian women have excelled in every other field starting from business, sports, management, official tasks, armed force and every other field. We find Indian women ruling their fields all over the world and it is because of the modernization of thoughts.
While we evaluate the growth of Indian women, the first thing that we need to start off with is our president Draupadi Murmu who herself belongs to a not so modern society and yet has managed to achieve the position she is in. here is a list of Indian women who have been able to mark their spot across the globe,
- Avani Lekhara
Avani was forced to use a wheelchair since her lower body was paralyzed following an accident when she was 11 years old. Avani made the decision to restart her life after everyone believed it had come to a standstill. The 19-year-old Jaipur native became the first female gold medalist in paralympic history. She established a new record in the R-2 women’s 10m Air Rifle category at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. She has been training since 2015, and this is her first significant international medal.
- Falguni Nayar
She has been one of the most successful women of India, abandoning her 20-year job in investment banking at the age of 50 to launch a new company focused on beauty. She founded Nykaa, and as the company’s shares increased to a record-breaking 89 percent in the final quarter of 2021, she has become India’s largest self-made female billionaire. She is the owner of half of the $6.5 billion business.
- Mirabai Chanu
Mirabai Chanu, the women’s 49 kg weightlifting silver medalist at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, is India’s leading woman. She competed for the first time at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and, after Karnam Malleswari, became the second Indian woman to win gold at the World Weightlifting Championships in 22 years. Mirabai won her first gold medal in a competitive event when she was just 11 years old. Her strength was recognised by the family when she was forced to gather firewood from a neighboring hill. She was born into a traditional Manipuri family.
- Krithi Karanth
She is the first Indian or Asian woman to receive the 2021 WILD Innovator Award. She is the Chief Conservation Scientist at the Centre for Wildlife Studies. It is granted by the Wild Elements Foundation, which promotes upending the current quo and locating remedies for global sustainability and conservation. Krithi is a well-known conservation scientist in India with extensive knowledge of protecting animals. This Mangaluru native also received the 2019 Women of Discovery Award from WINGS Worldquest, a group that promotes and honors female scientists for their outstanding contributions to their professions.
- Sharmistha Dubey
Sharmistha Dubey is the CEO of Match Group, which operates 45 international dating businesses including Tinder, Match.com, Meetic, OkCupid, and Hinge. Match Group has the largest global portfolio of well-known online dating services.
Apart from these there are numerous other personalities who are making their mark all over the world.
