By defeating Spain 1-0 on Monday, the Indian women’s hockey team captured the FIH Women’s Nations Cup 2022. The squad members danced with the trophy and medals as they basked in the pleasure of their victory. A video of their joyful celebration went viral on social media and spread joy over the internet.
The hockey team members are seen entering a building while carrying their baggage and wearing their hockey jerseys. They proudly display their medals while dancing merrily. The female players walk into the door one at a time, their broad smiles beaming with excitement.

In the opening period, Gurjit Kaur (5′) scored the game-winning goal. Spain played well in the first minutes of the game and nearly took the lead, but India captain Savita Punia, the shootout winner against Ireland in the semi-finals, made a quick save with her toes to save the Spanish shot from a penalty corner.
India won its first penalty corner of the game at the five-minute mark. Head coach Janneke Schopman has been concerned about India’s low conversion rate from PCs during the tournament, but Gurjit Kaur came through with a well-placed drive to give India the lead.
Both teams stepped up their offensive effort in the second half after India took a 1-0 lead. Clara Perez once more stepped in to put her team within striking distance as India came near to double their lead through a PC.
Spain started to pose some open-play questions to the Indian defense as the game progressed. Eventually, Lucia Jimenez defeated Savita from open play after a free hit with five minutes remaining in the third quarter. After an Indian camp review, the goal was, however, ruled off for a foul committed during the build-up.
India survived a late Spanish storm to retain the victory, the title, and a promotion to the Women’s FIH Pro League the next year.
