Holi- The festival of colours

Holi, commonly known as the “festival of colours,” is a lively and joyous Hindu holiday largely observed in India and Nepal. The event commemorates the entrance of spring, the triumph of virtue over evil, and the strengthening of interpersonal bonds.

Holi is traditionally observed on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Phalguna, which occurs in late February or early March. The celebrations usually continue for two days, with the first day being known as Holika Dahan and the second as Rangwali Holi or Dhulandi.

During Holika Dahan, people gather to light bonfires and pray to commemorate the triumph of good over evil. The bonfires represent the burning of the demon Holika, who, according to Hindu legend, attempted to murder the deity Prahlad but was destroyed.

Rangwali Holi is a festival where people throw colored powder and water at one other, dance, sing, and consume celebratory delicacies. The colors utilized during the event are meant to depict the varied hues of spring and are derived from natural products such as flowers, herbs, and vegetables.

Holi is a time for people to get together, have fun, put aside their differences, and celebrate their common humanity. It is the season to forgive and forget, to reestablish friendships and deepen bonds.

When we celebrate Holi this year, remember the festival’s significance and message of togetherness and love. Let us enjoy the colors of spring and each other, spreading love and happiness wherever we go.
