The International Hockey Federation will host the 15th Men’s FIH Hockey World Cup in 2023, which will serve as the quadrennial global championship for men’s national field hockey teams. From January 13 to January 29, 2023, it will take place in the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar and the 20,000 – seat Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium in Rourkela, India.

Hockey is a popular sport in India, and the Indian national hockey team has a long history of success on the international stage. The team won its first Olympic gold medal in 1928 and went on to win a total of eight Olympic gold medals, one Olympic silver medal, and two Olympic bronze medals. They also won the Hockey World Cup once, in 1975.

Additionally, the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) and Hockey India (HI) are the governing bodies of the sport in India and are responsible for promoting and developing the sport at the grassroots level and in the national team. 

The Indian team is in Group D for the 2023 hockey world cup together with England, Spain, and Wales. Australia will compete in Group A alongside Argentina, France, and South Africa. Group B includes Belgium, Germany, Korea, and Japan. The Netherlands, New Zealand, Malaysia, and Chile comprise Group C.
